Take a break this spring at Sanctuary Beach Resort

guestrelations SanctuaryBeachResort - Wednesday, February 27, 2013
As winter turns to Spring, enjoying the outdoors on Monterey Peninsula gets better and better. Days are longer and the temperatures are warmer.  Monterey County is a premier destination for those who love the outdoors. Biking, hiking, walking, boating, horseback riding and whale watching are just a few of the activities that entice visitors to Monterey. Whether you want to watch the whales or climb a mountain, there is no more spectacular place to than the Monterey Peninsula.
Did you know?  The entire Gray Whale population migrates past the Monterey Bay coastline every winter and spring. These whales have one of the longest animal migrations known, traveling over 12,000 miles from their summer feeding grounds in the Bering Sea to their winter breeding grounds in Baja California and back again. Gray whales are easily observed as they hug the coastline during migration. Several species of dolphins and porpoise are also present at this time, including Common Dolphins, Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, Risso's Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Dall's Porpoise, Harbor Porpoise, and Killer Whales! Sea Otters, California Sea Lions, and Harbor Seals.

Sanctuary Cruises in Moss Landing (10 miles north of the Sanctuary Beach Resort) offers whale watching with a marine biologist on board a 43 foot Delta Marine biodiesel vessel. Sanctuary Cruises go farther and stay out longer than other charter boats to provide more time with the marine life. They also offer a "see whale guarantee" - in the rare instance whales or dolphins are not spotted, they provide a complimentary future trip. Ask about our special whale watching discounts during your next visit to the Sanctuary Beach Resort.

Wine Tasting ATV Tour- Hahn Estate

guestrelations SanctuaryBeachResort - Wednesday, January 30, 2013
Recently, I was invited to experience an ATV adventure at Hahn Estates in the Santa Lucia Highlands, overlooking the breathtaking Salinas Valley. I consider myself an adventurous person; consequently I jumped at the opportunity
In German, “Hahn” means rooster and for this reason a rooster adorns each bottle of Hahn Wines, honoring the Hahn family's European heritage. Grown on over 1000 acres in Monterey County, the diverse vineyards of Hahn Estate make up some of the best Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah plantings in the region. The distinctive qualities of the vineyards coupled with the sunny days and foggy nights helps to create wines of depth and complexity.

The safari began on the ATV, we sped through the vineyards to our first stop- a behind the scenes tour of the barrel room and cellar operations. We sampled newly harvested grape juice straight from the barrels and learned about the fermentation process. We continued up the mountain where we were met with vineyards as far as the eyes can see.  The estate educator revealed in great detail the entire wine making process as we picked grapes directly from the vines and sampled each grape variety.
We returned to their stylish tasting room, and received a private tasting in their VIP room. As we sipped on the Hanh’s delectable wine selection we reflected on the day’s activities.  For a thrilling and unforgettable wine tour experience, look no further than the Estate ATV Adventure at Hahn Estate in the Santa Lucia Highlands.

“The Hahn wines celebrate everything that is Monterey – unique in thought, style and setting. Wines of Monterey Distinction.”

Discover the Sanctuary Beach Resort during in Fall…

guestrelations SanctuaryBeachResort - Monday, October 29, 2012

Quiet beaches, fresh seafood and coastal culture: Something the locals know and many travelers overlook is that the fall season is widely considered to be the best time of the year to visit the beautiful central coast. The beach crowds leave, hotel rates drop significantly, and temperatures are perfect for beach walks, tennis and golf, nature tours, outdoor dining and much more.

The Salinas Valley and the Monterey Peninsula are home to some of the most fertile farm land in the country. The valley is framed by mountain ranges to the east and west. The north end of the Salinas Valley opens to the Pacific Ocean and cools the valley which makes it possible to harvest a wide range of crops, many of which grow throughout the year.

The highest percentage of acres is devoted to cool-season vegetables, such as artichoke, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, Asian vegetables, lettuce, and spinach. In the county's southern half, farmers grow warm-season vegetables, including carrot, pepper, potato, and tomato. Monterey County is also home to a sizable wine grape industry and approximately one-third of the state's annual strawberry yield.

Restauant Review, The Haute Enchilada

guestrelations SanctuaryBeachResort - Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Yesterday for our monthly meeting, we decided to head into Moss Landing for lunch (just 10 minutes north of the Sanctuary Beach Resort). After much discussion on where to eat, we finally came to a consensus. The choice, “The Haute Enchilada” and an excellent choice it was! This place is more than a restaurant; it is a relaxing oasis. The weather was pleasant, so we grabbed a table outdoors. The ambiance was peaceful.  Fountains flowing... flowers, plants and succulents galore! The staff was attentive and accommodating. And the food… absolutely delicious.

The dishes are inspired and creative, with bursts of flavor in every bite. For a remarkable meal make sure to visit the Haute Enchilada!

Arroz Cataluna-  Paella style rice seasoned with saffron and lobster base, shrimp, mussels, clams, Spanish chorizo, organic free range chicken, red bell pepper, onion, garlic, English petite peas and asparagus. Garlic bread
