For those who haven’t yet been to Monterey, there are some landmark destinations that help make this charming Central Coast city its unique and colorful self. Focusing on the bigger, must-dos of your next vacation, we put together this list of five classic Monterey attractions.
Carved out of the Pacific Ocean, Monterey Bay is one of the most serene and beautiful bodies of water on the West Coast. In addition to offering miles of gorgeous, undisturbed beaches from Santa Cruz to Carmel-By-The-Sea, it’s also a proprietor of great seafood and boat trips. To get your own private look at it, come stay at The Sanctuary Beach Resort.
If you’re looking for the quintessential downtown hangout in Monterey, Cannery Row is the spot. Originally a major hub for sardine canning factories—none of which still operate—it’s now a colorful and aging collection seafood restaurants and boutiques in the repurposed factory spaces. Cannery Row is right on the Bay, so there are plenty of great views and breezes.
The Golden State Theatre has been open for 91 years, and is the main venue for big name acts coming through Monterey. Outside, a sprawling yellow facade with a vintage marquee make it an attraction to even just walk past. Inside, a classic auditorium pulls out all the stops with red curtains and velvet seats. Check out the event schedule to see who will be in town when you are!
