Sourcing varietals and grapes from two local vineyards, the Carmel Ridge Winery produces award-winning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Beginning in the high hills of Carmel Valley, the production process includes aging the wine in French oak barrels and later serving it at a stately tasting room in Monterey’s famous Cannery Row neighborhood.

Pierce Ranch Vineyards is the definition of local flavor, with a modest, family-run establishment in Monterey County’s San Antonio Valley. Their limited-run, estate-grown wines are produced mostly with Spanish and Portuguese methods. The 2007 Tourbillon is a best-seller with Grenache, Syrah, and Rhone-style blends, and the Cabernet Sauvignon is equally well received. Pierce Ranch has a tasting room in Monterey between Cannery Row and Lighthouse Avenue.

De Tierra is comprised of an estate vineyard in Carmel Valley Village, and a quaint tasting room in Carmel-By-The-Sea. Averaging 90 points on Wine Enthusiast, the producer’s collection of original varietals tends to please. Be sure to try the award-winning 2006 ‘Silacci’ Pinot Noir on your visit, or the also-celebrated 2006 ‘Estate’ Merlot.

Located just five miles from the Pacific, Folktale Winery creates its wines using 15 acres of sustainably-farmed gardens and vineyards. Guests can take a tour of the property for just $15 and hang out in the elevated, serene location to sample different blends and varietals. The Sparkling Brut and Pinot Noir are favorites of locals and newcomers alike.

Located in the hills of Carmel Valley, a visit here is both a serene escape and an intimate dive into the finest of local wines.
