Whether you’re staying here in the days leading up to Christmas and New Year’s, or you’re hanging through the holidays, there are plenty of ways to celebrate in Monterey. From spending time at The Sanctuary Beach Resort, to shopping and eating at the best Christmas dinner in town, here is your ultimate guide to celebrating the holidays in Monterey.
There are plenty of great places to do your holiday shopping in Monterey. Those of you looking for vast shopping centers with designer brands like Burberry, athletic brands like Lululemon, and household fashion brands like J. Crew—Monterey has some great options. Stop by the Del Monte Center, an open-air facility with Macy’s, an Apple Store, and more, or the similarly outfitted Carmel Plaza Shopping Center.
For more locally-inspired buys, Monterey is a great place to shop antiques at famous outfits like the Cannery Row Antique Mall, as well as charming boutiques like Maryse, and Poppy Boutique. For your interior design friends, be sure to stop by one of the area’s famous home decor shops like Lilify and Cha-ya.
There will be a number of restaurants open in Monterey city on Christmas, and the option that we are most excited about is right here at The Sanctuary Beach Resort. Our new onsite restaurant Saltwood Kitchen and Oysterette will be open from 3pm-8pm on Christmas day.
The special holiday menu is exciting with options like a classic honey baked ham, served with a pineapple clove glaze, mashed potatoes, stuffing and roasted vegetables. If you want to get a little more local with your options, there will also be a Dungeness crab mac and cheese, served with herb breadcrumbs, and a cioppino stocked with mussels, clams, shrimp, bay scallops, rock cod, and tomato sauce. For dessert, the restaurant will have eggnog creme brulée, chocolate mousse, and Christmas cookies.
For a proper holiday celebration in Monterey, you can honestly just hang here at The Sanctuary Beach Resort. Have a lazy morning with some gifts in one of our homey guest cottages on Monterey Bay, grab a late lunch or dinner at Saltwood Kitchen and Oysterette, and fill the rest of the day with a bike ride, walk on the beach, or trip into town.
