All About The Monterey International Blues Festival

The Monterey International Blues Festival is returning this summer, and there are a number of reasons why we are excited. As one of the most thoughtful, and dedicated blues-focused festivals in the world, it’s a can’t-miss experience for enthusiasts and new listeners. Here’s why we’re looking forward to it.

What It’s All About
Last year was the inaugural Monterey International Blues Festival, which was a passion project from a group of non-profit and music professionals. Working in conjunction with two non-profits—The Salvation Army and Guitars Not Guns—the ambitious program brought some of the biggest names in blues together for a successful first run. Some of the most notable acts included Charlie Musselwhite, Mighty Mike Schermer, Ms. Taylor P. and John Broadway Tucker among others.

This Year’s Headliners
Now, the main attraction is the music, so we’re going to tell you who you can look forward to seeing at this year’s Monterey International Blues Festival.

Kenny Neal will be on hand, showing one of the most celebrated Baton Rouge swamp blues acts around today. The second-generation blues master from southern Louisiana will bring that one-of-a-kind tradition to Monterey for a highly-anticipated show at this year’s festival.

The Blues Broads are another highly-anticipated headliner, as its a supergroup of voices from the worlds of blues, country, gospel, and rock. Comprised of renowned vocalists Angela Strehli, Annie Sampson, Tracy Nelson, and Dorothy Morrison, it’s a set that’s not to be missed.

Scotty Write & Blue Mambo is another act that we are super excited to see at this year’s Monterey International Blues Festival. This jazz singer has been exploring different sounds for over 30 years. His style has been described as warm and rich, relaxed and sophisticated.
