Botanical Illustration Workshop

Friday, June 19, 2026 June 19, 2026 The Sanctuary Beach Resort

The Art of Nature's Details and Connections | Led by Erin Ellis: Local Science & Botanical Illustrator

Set against the serene backdrop of the Monterey Bay coastline, this creative retreat invites guests of all skill levels to observe the intricate beauty of the natural world while Erin provides professional guidance on how to sketch California wildflowers and their essential pollinators. As the nationally recognized artist behind the botanical drawings created for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History that were published in Harvard Papers in Botany, Erin will share her expertise in capturing "ecological treasures" —from tiny honeybees to the Marina Dunes Preserve natural flora and fiona—and their vital role in our wider ecosystem. This workshop offers a sophisticated space to slow down, celebrate the season, and translate the vibrant energy noticing the details around us.

In this workshop, we’ll cover:

  • Leather-bound sketch book to use and take home with you
  • Art and sketch supplies provided
  • Sparkling wine and De Soi apéritifs
  • Step-by-step guidance on the art of botanical sketching
  • Light Marina Dunes group walk to see native plantings and pollinators
